Sometimes the body does not produce enough defense cells, such as B-cells (antibodies) and T-cells, to fight against pathogen. Without adequate defenses a person has less resistance to infections immune-deficiency diseases and, as a result, becomes frequently ill. Some people are born with immune deficiency diseases, others develop or acquire them. Allergies, arthritis, cancer and various other human diseases often develop due to problems with the immune system.
AIDS is a serious disease caused by a virus. The AIDS virus attacks Helper T cells in the body that help to fight against diseases. It reduces the ability of the body to fight against diseases since it decreases the body’s resistance to other diseases. The AIDS virus itself does not kill people. AIDS victims die from other infections that would normally not be fatal, like pneunomonia and cancer. This virus does not spread through air, water, food or animals such as mosquitoes.
AIDS can be transmitted through:
1- Sexual contact with a person who has the disease ..
2- Transfusion of blood.
3- Using a dirty needle that has been used by a person who has the AIDS virus. Pregnant women who have AIDS pass the disease to their unborn children.
A person infected with the AIDS virus loses weight rapidly and is tired most of the time. The infected person becomes infected with other diseases such as pneumonia and cancer. Doctors can not cure AIDS and the person dies.
To protect yourself against AIDS
– All blood used in transfusions should be tested.
– People must be careful about sexual contacts.
– Disposable needles must be used for injections.
Many people suffer from allergies, such as hay fever and asthma. Allergies are caused by the production of antibodies against particles that are not really harmful (pollen, dust, various food, penicillin, animal fur) which do not bother most people. Typical symptoms of allergy include a runnynose, swollen eyes sneezing, coughing, stomach cramp and diarrhea. These symptoms are caused by the release of a substance called histamine. Antihistamines are drugs that are used to counteract the effects of histamine.
T -cells attack cancer cells. It means that the body is normally protected from cancer by the immune response. Some cancers develop when there is a deficiency in the immune response.
