Building Creative Teams – The weakest point of organizations is their unawareness of their own problems. Even they don’t make an effort to learn about their problems.

However, wherever there is a human factor, there is a problem; however, thriving by solving these problems is a sign of healthy growth. In this article, we’ve brought together creative techniques for use in teamwork. We have prepared a few of these techniques according to some tips and tricks. Here we go:


1-) Brainstorming

Creative Team Building – One of the most popular creative techniques is brainstorming. The basis of brainstorming is a group’s attempt to find their own weaknesses, problems, and sources of problems through experience. The ideas put forward in the brainstorming cannot be interpreted and judged. In determining or solving problems, group contributions are highly productive, as well as individual contributions.

It is necessary to pose the main question of the brainstorming and state the problem you are trying to solve. While doing this, you can use different tools. These are tools that can help you generate ideas, such as post-its, images, and videos.

In brainstorm, write down every idea, even if it seems strange to you. Encourage participants to build on the ideas they put forward, rather than forcing them to approve or oppose the ideas put forward. After the problem identification portion of the session is over, vote on the best ideas that came up and list the resulting problems.


After identifying the problems with brainstorming, now comes the stage of producing solutions. At this stage of the brainstorming to solve the problem, solution proposals are discussed and the selected proposals are negotiated in order to turn them into good practices.

The process after that is the same as the problem finding part of the brainstorming. Sometimes, due to different interpersonal problems in the group, the brainstorming session can turn into a problem itself. As the team leader, you should not overlook this weak spot.

2-) Insight Game

Building Creative Teams – We lead a life where everything is connected; and often without realizing it. When we become aware of life, you experience one of those moments when you “suddenly realize how the world works and how beings and phenomena are interconnected”.

Here is an insight. Instant inspirations are insights. Your corporate culture should be open to such a practice.

As the team leader, set a score for each solution insight generated to the problems experienced in the office. You can write them on a white board that you will hang on a visible wall of the office for everyone to see, or you can have them pasted with post-its.

At the end of the day, the score differences are checked and the team that produces the most ideas, and the person and people in the team are rewarded in a certain period.


It’s actually a personal method, but it can also be played with a group. The purpose and reward of this application is to see the big picture, to handle more complex problems and to produce a different way of thinking by going out of the ordinary.

Return to the board each day and look at the big picture. Try these for at least 21 days. It’s going to be a great mix of ideas.

3-) Random Words Game

Creative Team Building – This practice is both insight and brainstorming. Its difference is not based on collective action, but on generating individual ideas.

The random creative sayings technique stimulates your imagination to create different perspectives and new angles about your idea or the problem you are facing.

It is the simplest of all creative techniques and is widely used by those who want to create something “new”, such as new product designers.

It’s played like this:

To generate problems or ideas, you create a bunch of different and random words, short stories or short phrases like tweets and paste or clip them to the clipboard on the wall of the office (which can also be applied at home).

The team leader can generate a brainstorming topic from these ideas.

After selecting the word, also list its attributes or associations with the word. Then apply each item on your list.

Our mainstay here is the brain. Because the brain is a self-organizing system and is very good at making connections about people, ideas and events.


Almost any random word will stimulate ideas on the topic. Keep track of the connotations and functions of the stimulus word, as well as use the word’s properties as a metaphor.

4-) Emulation

Building Creative Teams – Storyboards are a powerful way to visually present information; The linear aspect of cells is great for storytelling, explaining a process and illustrating the passage of time.

In essence, storyboards are a sequential series of drawings to tell a story. It divides a story into linear, segments, allowing the author to focus on each cell individually, without distraction.

Storyboards go back to the early days of cinema and animation.

As it is known , Walt Disney and his team developed a Story Board system in 1928 .

Disney wanted to achieve full animation, and for this he had to produce an enormous number of drawings. Managing thousands of drawings and the progress of a project was nearly impossible. That’s why Disney has artists hung their drawings on studio walls. This way, progress can be controlled and scenes can be added and dropped with ease.

Storyboarding is a popular creative technique and has spread widely in the business world.

Storyboards are used by industry today to plan ad campaigns, advertisements, an offer, or other business presentation aimed at persuading or compelling action.

5-) Metaphorical Thinking

Creating a Creative Team – Metaphor is a way of thinking that connects two universes of meaning.

Metaphorical thinking is based on similarity. Our minds tend to look for similarities. A roadmap is a model or metaphor of reality and is useful for explaining things.


One of the best examples of this is “Time is money.” is the word.

Here, we can create strong images in our brains by thinking of “time” as “money”. So you mean wasted time is money wasted. Full time is an important investment.

A direct comparison between two unrelated or indirectly related things is called a metaphor. And as we saw in the “time is money” example, metaphors can create powerful images that can be used to great effect in everyday communication and thought.

6-) Mind Mapping

Creating a Creative Team – Mind Maps, registered in Turkey by World Memory Champion Melik Duyar, is an effective technique for structuring information and taking notes.

To make a mind map, you start by writing the main idea in the middle of the board. We invite your team and their work in all directions, then producing a growing and organized structure using keywords/phrases and key images/video. Use colored links, post-it, shapes, icons, images and videos, anything that can help you create a visual map.


Change your mindset to take on another character and try to think like someone else. For example, imagine that you are a doctor, a lawyer, a child, or why you are not Batman? Start writing your ideas into post-it thinking as your ‘superhero’. If you use the method within the group, you can assign roles to each other before the session. Vote for the best ideas after the session is over.
