Let’s roll! The second Sunday in August means that it is National Bowling Day.

Question: do you know how to score a bowling game? Yes, you can only knock down 10 pins per frame. And there are only 10 frames per set. So how does a perfect score add up to 300? Answer: It is more complicated than that. Strikes and spares have their own special scoring system (bonus). And the tenth frame allows one or two additional balls if you knock down all the pins.

I have it?

While bowling games may have originated in ancient civilizations around the world, we can probably give credit to the modern game of bowling in Germany. The kegels were placed at the end of an alley and the Germans would roll a stone, trying to knock them down (seriously, we’re looking for this). The motivation was that by tearing down the kegel, a person’s sins would be reconciled.

Salt and bowl
You will need a ball and shoes, but you can always rent them at the bowling alley if you don’t have yours.

Host a bowling party
It’s so 70’s! Host a bowling party for one of your good friends or family. Be sure to include refreshments for the entire team. Very soon you will be the favorite for bowling night.

Watch “The Big Lebowski”
While “Kingpin’s” is definitely a classic (and arguably the most bowling-centric comedy), one can never go wrong sitting down for a white Russian with The Dude! Fun fact: The Coen brothers shot those scenes inside the old Hollywood Star Lanes in Los Angeles. The alley closed in 2002. What a pity, buddy.

What is National Bowling Day and Activities (August 8)

Bowling equals pegging
It’s a fun way to inspire a friendly competition between friends, and you can get as serious (or not) as much as you want.

Bowling + food = good times
Speaking of food, there is plenty to choose from at a bowling alley. If you have that craving for food between games, there’s no need to leave.

You define your own style
You can launch directly or develop your own characteristic curve. Tip: a consistent curve is the key.
