Calla Lily (Zantedeschia aetheopica)
- Light: light or semi-shade
- Temperature: 68° to 75° F – 20° to 24° C
- Humidity: 45% to 50%
- Soil: “tropical”
- Watering: every second or third day

Originally from South Africa, this plant, yet another member of the begonia family, is often grown on a large scale for cut flowers. Some gardeners complain about the difficulty they experience in trying to get it to re-bloom. This is often because they have not observed the resting period of the growth cycle.
In May and June, fertilizing should be completely stopped. At the end of June the plant must be repotted. The faded leaves should be cut off and the old soil removed from the roots. You will now be able to plant either outdoors in the ground or in a good rich soil indoors. Water frequently, and remember to give it fertilizer.
If planted outside, it should be transplanted into a pot by the middle of August, because it should be left outside in its pot for about a month, as a transitional step. Then bring it back inside in stages: from a cool place to a slightly less cool place and so on. This plant needs high humidity indoors. It should be watered regularly and the foliage sprayed daily. It grows fast, so make sure it has enough space. When growth resumes you will be able to propagate the plant by division.
