Spring! A new beginning: birds whistle and flowers bloom. Give your skin a new start too. After months of alternating between the warm, dry indoor air and the cold outside air, it’s time for a new season with matching skin care.
Take your skin out of hibernation with these 8 care tips for radiant spring skin!
It’s time for a big cleansing, also for your skin. The winter creams have been a heavy burden on your skin. It’s time for a change.
Pamper yourself with a warm bath and a scrub from head to toe. Use a coarse scrub and give extra attention to your knees, elbows, feet, hands and back.
For your face, it is better to use a product for sensitive skin, as your face needs different nutrition and treatment than your body. After exfoliating your face, always use a moisturizing cream.
Drink plenty of water
Water does wonders for your body. It is therefore not surprising that drinking water, combined with a balanced diet and exercise, is very stimulating. Drinking enough water also helps prevent your skin from becoming dry and flaky.
Of course, you use sunscreen on sunny days. But also on cloudy days there is harmful UV radiation. Protect your skin against this and choose a product that doesn’t clog your pores. Choosing the wrong skin product can cause irritated skin with bumps or redness.
Did you know that there are also day creams and makeup products that already have UVA/UVB protection? This is a great tip for when the sun in spring begins to come through.
Do you suffer from dark spots and pigment spots? Then try a dark spot cream. Often you will see a difference within a week.
Did we mention the importance of hydration? Water helps to keep your skin elastic and prevent signs of aging. However, eating fresh fruit and vegetables is a smart way to get extra water. Further more, it’s also a delicious snack and contains vitamins and nutrients. Take, for example, lettuce, broccoli, grapefruit, carrots, apples or watermelon. Research has shown that citrus fruits are very good for maintaining healthy skin.
Choose a light day cream
Skin care in winter requires thick layers of firm cream. As it warms up, these same creams will leave a small greasy layer on your skin. That’s why you should choose a light moisturizing day cream in light spring days. Try a day cream that does not contain oil, is non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic.
Moving is important. But going to a gym or training at home is not what you want. Your days are busy enough as it is. Good to know: exercise improves blood circulation, which in turn ensures healthy skin. Don’t feel like going to the gym? Try 30 minutes of yoga in the garden or enjoy the spring weather and take an evening walk.
Clean make-up brushes
Don’t forget to also include your makeup brushes when you start cleansing for springtime. You can’t always see it, but these brushes are a breeding ground for bacteria. Use a natural cleanser. A cleanser that is largely natural and contains no dyes, parabens, animal products or other irritants.
Check the ingredients
Don’t unnecessarily expose your skin to ruthless ingredients. Check what’s in your cream and look for natural alternatives, such as organic products or homemade cleansers such as vinegar or baking soda.
